Hello, my name is Firoj Shaikh,
I am the founder of this blog, thestudyskills.com.
The purpose of this blog is to help and make students smart & efficient in learning and help them to achieve their academic goals effortlessly.
I have learned that Effective study skills are the key to academic success.
My experience as a student taught me that good study skills are crucial to achieving academic goals.
When I reached high school, I was an excellent student. But when I went to college, my academic performance declined significantly.
In high school, I always got good grades and never had to study hard for tests. But in college, I was often struggling to keep up with the work and had to spend a lot of time studying.
My friends also said that my participation in class discussions decreased as well.
I think there are several reasons why my academic performance changed so much when I transitioned from high school to college.
For one, the level of difficulty of the coursework was much higher in college than it was in high school.
And secondly, I had not worked on developing my study skills. In fact I didn’t know about it.
I was looking for help and guidance to make things better.
And suddenly one day I found it.
As I was browsing through the aisles of the nearby bookshop, I came across a small booklet about study skills and techniques.
It was only a few pages long. I decided to buy it.
It became the best decision of my life.
Once I got home, I sat down and read it in one go. It was filled with useful tips and advice on how to study effectively.
The information in that booklet changed my mindset and influenced my perspective regarding learning.
It has turned into a guidebook that I refer to whenever I need help studying.
After reading that book, I realized that a lot of what I was doing was wrong and that there are better ways to learn.
I was surprised to find out that many of the techniques I had been using for years were hindering my ability to learn.
This book ignited my desire to pursue for more information relevant to my interest in learning skills.
As I analysed other elements associated with learning, I discovered a wealth of valuable resources and tips.
I believed that with the help of this information, anyone could improve their learning capacity in many folds.
Today’s children lack motivation when it comes to learning. This is because many of them do not have the academic skills that necessary for success in school.
This lack of motivation can lead to decreased grades, missed opportunities, and a possible decline in future careers.
Video games, social media, and endless TV shows devour a large amount of the student’s time.
This also leads to many problems in their academic career, some of which are listed below,

- They don’t have any knowledge about study skills.
- Poor time management.
- Feeling overwhelmed.
- Poor mental health.
As a consequence, they can’t do their classwork satisfactorily and score poorly on their final exams.
Schools and colleges should take proper action to help these children’s regain their interest in learning and achieve their full potential.
According to a study published by the National Association for Colleges and Employers, only one-third of recent college graduates have basic skills in critical thinking, writing, and research.
The study also found that many students don’t have any knowledge about study skills, such as how to stay organized or how to prepare for exams.
According to the National Institute of Mental Health, feelings of overwhelm are common in students.
While there are many reasons why students feel overwhelmed, some of the most common include a complex academic workload, many assignments and exams, and social pressures.
Feeling overwhelmed can have negative effects on both students’ academic performance and their mental health.
